As we come to the end of our settling-in period at The Villa Nursery, we take time to reflect on what an important stage this is in every child’s early years journey. The settling process is much more than a few introductory days — it is the foundation on which children build their confidence, sense of belonging, and love of learning.

What is the Settling-In Period?

The settling-in period is a gradual process designed to help children adjust to a new environment, new routines, and new relationships. Every child is unique, and the time it takes to feel comfortable will vary. Our aim at The Villa is to create a calm, nurturing transition where children (and their families) feel safe, supported, and understood.

A Personalised Approach to Settling

At The Villa, we pride ourselves on offering dedicated one-to-one support during the settling-in period. Each child is carefully matched with a key worker who takes time to build a strong and trusting relationship — a familiar face who becomes their secure base as they explore new experiences. This connection helps children feel recognised, valued, and confident from the very beginning.

We understand that no two children are the same. That’s why we take a case-by-case approach to settling, adjusting the pace and length of the process to meet each child’s individual needs. Some may feel ready to stay for longer sessions quite quickly, while others benefit from a gentler introduction over a few weeks. Our flexible approach ensures that every child transitions at their own pace, feeling secure and supported every step of the way.

Why the Settling Process Matters

Starting nursery is a big step, often the first time a child spends extended periods away from their main caregivers. A positive settling experience lays the groundwork for a child’s emotional wellbeing and long-term learning journey. When children feel secure, they are more willing to explore, engage, and develop meaningful relationships.

At The Villa, we know that children thrive when strong partnerships exist between home and nursery. We take the time to get to know each family, their routines, and what makes their child feel comfortable. This collaborative approach helps children form trusting bonds with their key person and feel truly at home in their new environment.

Our Approach at The Villa Nursery

During our settling period, we focus on:

  • Connection and Consistency: One-to-one interactions help children feel seen and supported as they form bonds with their key person. Familiar routines and gentle transitions create a sense of security.

  • Family Partnership: We value parents and carers as the experts on their child. Open communication helps us work together to support each child’s individual needs.

  • Flexibility and Understanding: We tailor the length and pace of the settling period to suit each child, ensuring a calm and confident start.

  • Emotional Wellbeing: Comfort, reassurance, and positive experiences help children feel confident to explore and play.

Looking Ahead

As our children settle and begin to flourish, we’re already seeing growing confidence, curiosity, and joyful connections. This transition period has set the stage for a year of discovery, friendship, and learning through play.

At The Villa Nursery, we believe that investing time, care, and individual attention into the settling process is the key to everything that follows — because when children feel safe and loved, they are ready to learn and shine.
